Coutances is located in the Manche département in the Normandy region of France. More than one thousand years of history have shaped the town of Coutances, but unfortunately, it suffered much damage during World War II. It’s biggest attraction of note is the famed Notre Dame Cathedral. The half-Gothic, half-Norman architecture is spectacular and during summer months the cathedral hosts an evening light and sound show. Further explorations to Mont Saint-Michel, D-Day landing beaches, the Bayeux with Queen Mathilda’s tapestry, the Caen Peace Museum and the Channel Islands are all easily accessible from this location.
