very transparent as the steel beams that make up the Pompidou Centre's
framework are on the outside. The intention of the architects was to place all
the service elements outside the building's framework and thereby turn the
building ‘inside out’. The area immediately outside of Centre Pompidou, Place
Georges Pompidou, is known for its street performers that entertain the
gathered throngs, especially on warmer days. Miniature carnivals sometimes
feature on the square, providing a variety of entertainment and activity.
