One of many city squares one can find throughout Paris, the Place Vendome is a nice blend of historical significance and modern appeal. Originally established as far back as 1702 as a monument to the armies of Louis XIV, the square still contains remnants of that era, as well as every other that has come since. For instance, the massive Column in the middle of the Square was erected by Napoleon to celebrate his victory at Austerlitz, taken down during the Uprisings of the late 19th century, and then re-erected once again!
