La Chapelle is an understated area with quiet, attractive hotels and bistros. La Chapelle metro station is located north of Gare du Nord, suspended about Boulevard de la Chapelle. This station sits on metro line 2, which runs from Porte Dauphine in the west to Nation in the east. Boulevard de la Chapelle marks the boundary between Paris’ 10th and 18th arrondissements and this area was formerly the village of La Chapelle. La Chapelle officially opened in 1903 as line 2 was extended from Anvers to Bagnolet (now Alexandre Dumas). La Chapelle is connected to Gare du Nord overland rail and metro stations via an underground walkway, which can be reached by descending several flights of stairs after entering the station.

Travelling on line 2 from La Chapelle can take you to Pigalle, at the foot of Butte Montmartre, and further westwards to Arce de Triomphe at Charles de Gaulle Étoile. The western terminus, Porte Dauphine, lies at the entrance to the Bois de Boulogne. Travelling east, line 2 leads to Père Lachaise, site of the famous Père Lachaise cemetery. This cemetery is the final resting place of Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison, Frédéric Chopin, Édith Piaf and Marcel Proust, among other famous and not-so-famous corpses. Those with a penchant for ancient architecture will enjoy staying in La Chapelle. This area is home to the famous Saint-Vincent-de-Paul church and the Saint-Laurent church, both of which date back centuries.
