Sorbonne is the colloquial name for the famous University of Paris, one of the oldest institutes of higher learning in Europe. Founded in 1257, the College de Sorbonne at the university gave rise to the image of Paris as a center of theological study during much of the 20th century, and is still regarded as having one of the best faculties of theology anywhere in the world.

The buildings of the university itself house a number of interesting attractions such as the Sorbonne observatory, the Cours de Civilisation Francaise de la Sorbonne, and maybe most interestingly, the library of Sorbonne, featuring rare and antique books and manuscripts, many of which are one of a kind.
