Part of the area of Paris that is known as the Quartier Latin or Latin Quarter, sits upon the Left Bank of the Seine River, very close to the Sorbonne, which is a French university. This area is well known for its energetic ambiance as well as for the number of restaurants and Paris Bistros that are located here. There are several colleges and universities in the Quartier Latin Paris. Some of the points of interest in this district are Notre Dame, the St. Germain des Pres Abbey, and the refectory of the Cordeliers monastery, which was built in the 13th century.
