Clignancourt is a station in the Parisian metro system. The northern terminus of line 4 was opened in 1908 along with the line itself. The line includes stops in Porte d’Orleans and Simplon. Clignancourt itself is located within the 18th arrondissement of Paris. The Clignancourt area was one a small hamlet that was owned by the abbey of Saint-Denis. It was annexed into the city in 1860. The arrondissement is home to such major attractions as Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur Basilica.
In addition, the Goutte d’Or district is nearby with its highly popular open-air market, le marche Dejean. This predominately North African neighborhood also plays host to a number of festivals throughout the year.
