Paris is not only known as a great tourist destination in France. It also has health care establishments that are known to provide excellent care to its patients. One of these hospitals is the Cochin. Part of the Public Assistance – Hospitals of Paris or AP-HP, the Cochin Hospital can be found in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. This hospital is considered the Burns Centre in the city and is a great part of Paris tourism.
The Cochin hospital got its name from Jean-Denis Cochin. He was the parish priest of Saint-Jacques du Haut-Pas, who founded a hospital that was meant to cater to the needy as well as the workers in the district. This history makes the hospital an important player in Paris tourism. Aside from the hospital, there is also a biomedical research institute that has been combined with the health care institution since the year 1990. Named the Cochin Institute, this was reorganized in 2002 as a joint research that deals with genetics, cell and molecular biology.
