While it’s easy to think of all the great historical and modern attractions that Paris has to offer, it’s very easy to overlook one of its best features: the natural beauty! The Jardin de Plantes is a fantastic botanical garden in the beautiful Left Bank district, offering visitors a look at some of France’s native flora in its natural state, and a host of other interesting features as well.
The same grounds that house the botanical gardens are also home to four museums visitors are encouraged to explore, including a museum of natural evolution, one of mineralogy, one of paleontology, and one of entomology. Clearly, the natural world is very much a hallowed subject here. There’s even a small zoo located here, dating back to the era of Versailles, originally used to house the royal family’s menagerie. Located just a short distance from several local metro stations, the Jardin de Plantes is a great attraction to visit.
