The Montmartre Paris is best known among travelers as the location of the Montmartre itself. The Montmartre is a hill with a height of 130 meters. On the summit of the hill is the beautiful Basilica of the Sacre Coeur. The structures white dome is visible for many miles, and is considered a landmark. Local artists will often set up their easels here each day and happily paint. There is another church on this hill that is known as Saint Pierre de Montmartre, and it is supposedly where the Jesuit priest order had its beginnings. The view of the city from atop Montmartre is truly stunning. Other attractions in the Montmartre Paris include the Le Bateau-Lavoir. Montmartre has always been a gathering place for artists, and this structure, considered a commune, once housed Pablo Picasso and Amedeo Modigliani during their lean years as struggling young artists. Other artists, such as Vincent Van Gogh, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec did some of their work in Montmartre, and were inspired by the area.
