        La Madeleine Church Details

La Madeleine Church in Paris was constructed in the early 1800's at the commissioning of Napoleon in honor of St. Mary Magdalene. The neo-classical style structure boasts a total of 52 Corinthian columns that stand 20 meters high. The church itself has three domes and a single nave, which are decorated in Renaissance-style art. A statue of St. Mary Magdalene sculpted by Charles Marochetti is housed inside the structure above the high altar. The organ inside was crafted by Aristide Cavaille-Coll, who was a celebrated instrument maker during the 1800's. The organ is said to be one of the citys best. The church is also located near the Place de la Concorde and the Place Vendome. Visiting the church is free of charge.
