Parc Montsouris is a municipal park located in the Rive Gauche area of Paris, with a total area of 15.5 hectare ( around 38 acres). This park was created by Napoleon II and the Baron Haussmann in an effort to provide the city with more green spaces. Found within the 14th arrondissement, Parc Montsouris was designed in the 19th century to mirror the look of a traditional English garden. The park’s water reservoir, in fact, covers one of the entrances to the ancient Paris catacombs.
The park itself is known to attract some 40 different species of birds, including herons and geese. The gardens are home to such plants and trees as cedar, buttonwood, ginkgo, honey locust and more.
