Calais is a town located in northern France in the Pas-de-Calais département. It is also the closest city to the U.K. With a population of over 125,000, you'll find many great restaurants or hotels in Calais. One of the most beautiful sights here is the view of the white cliffs of Dover, which can be seen since Calais overlooks the Strait of Dover.
Calais is served by two railway stations, Gare de Calais-Ville and Gare de Calais-Fréthun. Although this is a large commune, there are not a lot of prehistoric buildings or items to view because of the destruction of WWII. The Town Hall (hotel de ville) was designed in a style of Flemish Renaissance and has a statue The Burghers of Calais right in front. This building always attracts tourists. The Calais museum, located in the park, is the headquarters for German military. A beautiful piece of scenery is Côte d'Opale, section of the coast that's lined with cliffs.
