Saône et Loire Details

The Sâone Valley and River show travelers a landscape of hills, orchards, vineyards and Romanesque churches. Chapaize has a small Romanesque church while Cormatin boasts a Renaissance Château. There is the Romanesque Abbaye de St. Philibert near Tournus made of pale pink stone with a black and white stark interior. Other Sâone-et-Loire attractions include the Museum Niepce dedicated to the inventor or photography and the ancient and renowned abbey at Cluny. Its ruins now are home to an Art museum. A flourmill sports its figured capitals. You can also find the small city of Mâcon in Sâone-et-Loire sitting on the banks of the Sâone River. The ancient 11th century stone bridge, the St. Laurent Bridge, is part of the Mâcon landscape. Other sights include the funerary basilica of St. Clement with its now restored 6th century sanctuary. From the remains of St. Vincent Cathedral, you can view the Sâone Valley and Mâcon. Only two towers, the nave and the interconnecting bay remain today. Enjoy Mâcon cuisine and beverages, particularly the wines.
