Boats cruise on the Sarthe River. At Sable-sur-Sarthe, you can buy tin-glazed earthenware or visit the Pottery Museum. At the old fortified town of Savigny-sur-Braye, you can visit the Church of St. Peter dating from the 12th to the 17th centuries. You can also make a trip to the castle or Château of Courtananvaux with its medieval roots and Renaissance touches. Many tourists, however, head to the lake and to Saint-Calais.

Saint-Calais is a quiet community. It sits split by the slow flowing River Anille. In Saint-Calais, activities include renting paddleboats or rowboats at the nearby lake. Saint Calais attractions are not only the water that flows in and near the town. You can visit the ruins of the once magnificent Château de Saint-Calais. Other sights in Saint-Calais include the 16th century house La Grande Maison and the Coats Mansion. Many tourists, however, opt to visit the Saint-Calais major sight of Notre Dame de Saint-Calais. The facade dates from 1520 to 1550. This Renaissance building also has a steeple with a 12th century base. Pinned in one pillar of the choir is a 6th to 7th century piece of cloth the “shroud of holy.” Check with EasyToBook.com for help in locating hotels in this region, even to search for hotels near points of interest.
