The Ambialet peninsula in the Tarn region of France was once an important holding of the Albigeois, and there are still traces of that past to be found here. No matter where your EasyToBook.com Ambialet hotel is located, you’ll be convenient to the Ambialet area since the peninsula is narrow; at one point it is only 30 meters wide. Follow the Tarn loop around the peninsula to see the whole of it in one trip. Then see the priory, the 14th century Church of Saint-Gilles. The incredible structure is built partly into the rock and partly overhanging it. The building was restored to its former glory in 1996.
As you come down the hill and take the concrete stairs, you’ll find the remains of a 15th century stone cross near the main road. Ask directions to see the Cross of St. John, where there are some medieval remains and ruins, including forts such as the Roquetaillade, the Montcabriere, and the Payrolles. From here you can see the ruins of the Trencavel Castle as well. Also visit the oldest church in the region, Notre-Dame du Prieure, built in 1057.
