The main town center of Stuttgart, Schlossplatz is like many town squares throughout Germany, but of course possesses its own unique attributes that make it well worth visiting. This is where many of the city’s most significant and beautiful attractions are located, including some of the most important buildings and most of the monuments.
The center of the Schlossplatz houses the magnificent column known as the Jublaumssaule, which dates back to the 19th century. It is a sculptural marvel and demands to be seen. It is also a historical landmark, having been erected in honor of the reign of Wilhelm I. In addition, many sculptures by renowned artists line the square. Works represented include those of Alexander Calder and Alfred Hrdlicka. Of course, a visit to the Schlossplatz wouldn’t be complete without visiting the Schloss itself; the Baroque Neues Schloss palace, one of the finest attractions in all of Stuttgart.
