In the district of Bavaria you can find the town of Gunzenhausen, Germany. It sits on the Altmuhl River about 19 kilometers away from Weißenburg in Bayern and Nuremberg is just 45 kilometers away. The town is known for an infamous incident during 1934. On Palm Sunday in that year over 1,500 people participated in Nazi violence against the 184 Jewish people living in the town at the time. Many were injured and two of the victims were killed.

There are a number of other sites worth seeing while you are staying in your Gunzenhausen budget hotel. The 15th century Church of St. Mary is a gothic Lutheran church that is built on the site where both a Roman fort and a Romanesque church once stood. The Holy Spirit Church was built in 1352 and was later built in the baroque style. You can walk along the medieval walls of the city and you'll pass three towers as well: Dyer Tower, built around 1300 and the 15th century Blasturm and Stork Towers.
