Miesbach Hotels and Accommodation
Bavaria brings to mind a land of dramatic landscapes, castles, and steins of beer. Yet one Bavarian town is more famous for mining and generating electricity. For an interesting stop in your tour of Bavaria, stay a night or two in a budget hotel in Miesbach, Germany. The town is just 48 kilometers from Munich, making it a convenient stop on a tour around the south of Germany.
The town dates from approximately the year 1000 and has long been the center of the Miesbach district. The town offers two lakes to enjoy: Lake Schliersee and Lake Tegernsee. Several world-famous spas are found on the shores of the lakes, including the Bad Wiessee, Rotach-Egern, and Tegernsee spas. However, the town is just as famous for having been the site of the first transmission of electricity over a long distance. In 1882, Oskar von Miller and Marcel Deprez transmitted 1,343 volts of electricity from Miesbach to Munich, the first time electricity had ever been sent so far.
