When planning a visit to one of the luxury or budget hotels in Munich near the Glyptothek Museum, plan to spend at least one or two days exploring this historic building. It was originally constructed between 1816 and 1830 by command of the King of Bavaria, Ludwig 1. It was designed specifically to house a collection of Greek and Roman sculptures, so is very much in keeping with the appearance of Greek architecture of the time.
There are typically several different events, guided tours and lectures going on in the facility, and staff at any of the discount hotels near the Glyptothek Museum can provide current information. Generally the museum is open 10:00 to 17:00 (CET) on Tuesdays through Sundays, and there is a very modest admission fee. Even the outside of this building is adorned with 18 original Greek and Roman sculptures, however the inside is a true treasure, with artwork dating back to 700 BC. This is a must see attraction when visiting Munich.
