Goldener Turm Regensburg

In the ancient past, during the medieval era, most large cities in Germany were surrounded and fortified by huge defensive walls. These walls were intended to keep out invaders and to limit the access to the town, so that officials knew who was within the walls at any given time. Most of these walls have since fallen to ruin, but many of the towers that dotted their perimeter remain. Chief among these, for virtue of being the largest and the grandest, is the Goldener Turm in Regensburg.
