Although the Wurzburg Cathedral or the Church of St. Kilian is the largest Cathedral to be found in Wurzburg, many would argue that the Neumunster Church is the most interesting. Tourists in the area who are looking for something to do that offers them an incredibly unique look at German history and life would be well served to make the visit here. The Church itself has a massive dome that makes for a great architectural spectacle, but the interior is perhaps even more noteworthy.
Housed within the Cathedral are several great works of art, including several important ones from the 15th century, depicting the “Man of Sorrow” as well as the ever-popular Madonna. The crypt of the church contains the remains of three Catholic saints, making it an extremely interesting site for either the religious or historians. In fact, each year, there is a festival and ceremony wherein students of theology convey the skulls of St. Kilian, St. Kolonat, St. Totnan from the crypt to the Wurzburg Cathedral and back again.
