While Wiesbaden is certainly home to many attractions that show off the town’s ancient history and natural beauty, it’s the Kurhaus that puts the town on the map and gives it its primary draw to German tourists. The Kurhaus is a giant spa house, where the waters of the Mattaci River offered much to those who lived in the area in older times. The original structure was torn down and replaced, however, in the early 20th century by Kaiser Wilhelm II, and this replacement structure that stands today is a wonderful example of Neo Classical architecture.
Today, the Kurhaus of Wiesbaden is primarily used as a large open-air meeting place, or as the site for conventions, shows, and various exhibitions. Congresses are even held here, and rallies for political reasons are frequently seen. One of the most popular uses of the grounds, however, is for entertainment: a huge variety of concerts and other performances take place at the Kurhaus, and are one of the most appealing attractions to both locals and visitors.
