Another of the many buildings in Wismar that offer German tourists a chance to glimpse at the unobstructed history and culture of the region is the Arsenal Building. For those tourists in the area who are trying to take in all the historical sights that Wismar has to offer (and there are many), the Arsenal building, which is located near the Old Harbor, and thus makes for a nice outing, is a must see.
The Arsenal building was originally constructed in days long past, and its original date of inception is no longer a matter of public record. What we do know, however, is that when the original was destroyed at the turn of the 17th century, master architects from Sweden stepped in in order to construct a replacement that would serve as a garrison and storage for supplies and arms during the wars of that era. When the Arsenal building was recently overhauled, it was once again done by Swedish builders, thus continuing a now long-standing tradition.
