Ecotels Essen

The Villa Hugel is one of those many attractions that started out as something completely different from what it is today. Originally built as the lavish resident of the wealthy Alfred Krupp, the Villa Hugel is a prominent structure to the south of Essen that is considered by many to be an architectural masterwork in the Classical style. It consists of a main mansion, a guest mansion, and a truly massive garden that includes its own lakes and a full forest.

Visitors to the area can bask in the natural beauty of the garden, or visit the interior of the buildings themselves, which nowadays serve many different functions. For starters, they offer a history of the famous Krupp family, with collections of artifacts from days past, and exhibitions demonstrating where the family has gone in recent years. At various points throughout the year, visitors to the Villa Hugel can enjoy traveling art shows from around the country (and indeed, all of Europe), as well as many different music concerts that tour here in order to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings and natural acoustics.
