The town of Euskirchen is small, but it still boasts one of the nicest attractions in all of Germany, especially for those visitors who are looking for something to do that offers them an insight into the region’s rich history. This attraction is the Venyau Castle, one of the oldest castles in the region, and still largely intact despite its interior being gutted by flames in 1708. Because of its preservation, it is considered to be one of the finest monuments of that era in this section of Germany.
Operations to restore the castle’s interior to its original splendor have been underway for a few decades now, but the job is an extensive one and they have yet to be completed. Because of this, the castle is not always open to the public, so it would be wise to call in advance if you plan on visiting. Even on days when it’s closed down, though, visitors can still marvel at the exterior of the structure and its marvelous moat, which transports one back in time with its stark natural beauty.
