The romantic Danube or Donau River passes through the Bavarian Forest as it leaves Germany for Austria. You can take river cruises along the Danube. Alternatively, cycle along this river’s banks. Regensburg is a good place to stop and visit for a weekend. The Bavarian Forest is the home of this and other cities. At Regensburg, explore the Steinerne Brücke, completed by 1146, a medieval bridge, 310 m. long, spanning the Danube. While there visit the Brückturm Museum There is also the Baumburger Turm, a 14th-15th century castle and the Goliathhaus where Oskar Schindler lived in 1945. Beyond the communities, explore the marshes, swamps and peat bogs.
