The famous Danube River starts in Germany in the Black Forest and passes through the Bavarian Forest on its way to Austria from Germany. You can ride their bikes along its banks just west of Regensburg. If you go, try to stay longer than a weekend. The Danube region offers you with a chance to explore several interesting sites, including the protective wall of Deggendorf and its baroque tower from the 14th century. Danube can then help you wind your way through such notable places as Metten with its Benedictine Monastery dating from the 9th century or Walhall with its Graeco-style Doric temple. The Danube provides its visitors with many small towns and villages to explore. There is also the three rivers to follow. Check out Passua’s Dreiflusseck garden where the three rivers meet or the Veste Oberhaus. The latter sits high above the city, a stronghold built in the 13th century to guard its citizens.
