One of the most fabulous and ornate sights in all of Trier is the Kurfurstliches Palais, an ancient palace built in the Rococo style. Out of the many amazing and ancient sights that one can see in Trier, the Kurfurstliches Palais is one of the most splendid and is considered by many to be one of the finest examples of Rococo architecture to be seen anywhere in the entire world.
It was originally built in the 18th century as the home of an archbishop, Johann Philipp von Walderdorff. Since then, however, it has served many different functions. Today, it works as the administrative offices of Trier, and as such, visitors are not allowed inside. There’s still plenty to see here, however, as the entire exterior is covered with wonderful statuary of figures from classical mythology and literature. In addition, the Palais sits amidst a beautiful garden that visitors are encouraged to stroll through.
