Much of Trier is dedicated to the preservation of ancient history what with its Roman amphitheater and Baths. However, one of the most fascinating stops you could make while here is a significantly more modern attraction: the home of Karl Marx. Notorious for his advocating the philosophy of Communism and the part he held in that Revolution, his birthplace is something of a shocking sight.
Rather than a stark and foreboding Spartan facility, the house is just as nice and pleasant as anything else one would find in Trier. Visitors are encouraged to come inside and browse as the house is filled with interesting artifacts such as the personal effects of Marx, and important documents and photographs from the era in which he lived and worked. For those with an interest in history, especially more modern European history, or even just in one of history’s most notorious philosophers, the Karl Marx House is a must see attraction.
