A popular misconception is that “burg” is German for village, or town. In fact, “burg” is German for castle. Westerburg is named for the castle built atop a hill just above the medieval town centre. Throughout Westerburg, you can find a lot of history in the local architecture. Of particular note would be the St. Severus Monastery, the castle chapel, and the remains of various mills and old houses and so on. The Palatinate Forest isn’t too far away, either, so this can be a great tour for sight seeing, hiking, or bicycling.

The area can be a little packed around the holiday seasons, when German Americans are coming to the motherland to visit family for Christmas. The area is still pretty popular in the summertime, as well, but not quite as stuffed. Either way, you don’t want to head to Westerburg without first booking some cheap hotels here at EasyToBook.com.
