"Friedrichstadt is a German town, located in the Schleswig-Holstein region. The town sits on the Eider River, and was originally settled by the Dutch. Today, the town is a suburb of Berlin and is considered a historical district. The Gendarmenmarkt is one of the main plazas in Friedrichstadt, and is considered one of the most beautiful plazas in Europe. Within the Gendarmenmarkt, you will find an important theatre, the Konzerthaus, as well as two important churches. The Deutscher and Französischer Doms are the German and French cathedrals.

Friedrichstadt saw much destruction during the First World War, so many of the historical buildings have been reconstructed. The infamous “Checkpoint Charlie” border crossing is located here, too. This was the well known border crossing between East and West Berlin before the fall of the Berlin Wall. As a suburb of Berlin, Friedrichstadt is well appointed in amenities.
