Weimar is famous for its many attachments to classical art with Johann Wolfgang von Geothe and Friedrich Schiller representing literature and Franz Liszt representing music. However, the city also has a great deal of influence over contemporary art and served as the birthplace of the famous Bauhaus movement of design, after which the school is named.

In line with this, the Musterhaus am Horn in Weimar is one of the most famous examples of Bauhaus architecture in the world. Ironically, it is the only example of this unique design sensibility in the entire city, and as such it has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It was originally established in the early 20th century for an exhibition that was to unveil Bauhaus to the world, but for whatever reason, no other major works of Bauhaus architecture would spring up in this area. For that reason, though, the famous “House on the Horn” is all the more worthy of your attention.
