Founded by Gustav Class, a Bavarian who came to Patras in the year 1854, the winery started out as a small vineyard meant for personal consumption until it grew into the Achaia Clauss. It was in the year 1861 that the winery started and it has since produced the best quality wines, one of which is the Mavrodaphne of Patras, served by the finest accomodations in Patras. The architectural features of the winery includes the traditional cellars, the large oak barrels and its stone buildings. The spectacular views from the winery as well as its beautiful landscapes have also contributed to its being the recipient of an estimated 200,000 visitors annually. As such, anyone can say that Achaia Clauss shares the limelight with other Patras attractions like the Ancient Odeum, the Carnival, St. Andrew's Cathedral and the Fortress.
