The Saint Andrew's Cathedral in Patras is actually made up of two churches that are both devoted to the city's patron saint, Saint Andreas or Saint Andrew. Held in the highest esteem among the attractions that contribute greatly to the tourism of Patras, the cathedral shares this limelight of fame with other attractions. Among these are the King George's Square, the Fortress, the Carnival and the Ancient Odeum. To visit all these attractions, find out more at your Patras accomodation.

The small church, which was built between 1836 and 1843, was said to have been installed on the spot where the Apostle Andrew was martyred. This church features icons depicting scenes of the Bible on its roof, among other subjects. At the church's right, you will be able to see the marble sepulchre of the saint. The new Byzantine Church that also makes up the cathedral is regarded as the biggest and most artistically beautiful church in the Balkans. Some hotels in Patras offer a nice view. Its most distinct features are the five-meter tall gold-plates cross with twelve smaller ones that are said to be symbols depicting Jesus and the twelve disciples. If you are staying in a Patras hotel, you can easily visit this church in the city.
