The Voud Square, near some hotels in Patras, got its name from Thomas Voud, who was responsible for the success in the selling of raisins in Patras. An Englander, Voud got into the city in the year 1843. He started his business after having seen the way raisins were being sold based on the strong economic development of the port. The death of Voud came when he was still England's Consul in Patras, which resulted in the naming of the areas surrounding the man's mansion after him, among which is the square.

If you are staying in one of the accommodations in Patras, then you can easily reach the Voud Square. Although this square has been christened again to become the Fighters Square of 1821, there are still many people who think of it as the Voud Square. Now, known as a tributary square to the Greek Independence War, the Voud Square shares the limelight as one of the attractions in Patras with other notable sights in the city like the Fortress, the Castle, the Ancient Odeum and the St. Andrew's Cathedral. For more information, enquire at your Patras hotel.
