The Kerameikos Cemetery is among the loveliest spots that you can see in Athens. Regarded as one of the contributors to the tourism of Athens, the famous ancient cemetery of the city can be found just outside its walls. There are many great monuments that can be found in the Street of Tombs in this cemetery, a number of which came from the 4th century BC and much later. Aside from being a great monumental attraction, the cemetery is also a place to wind down a bit and get some peace and quiet.
The name of the Kerameikos Cemetery is in honor of Keramos, a sort of hero and patron saint of potters not only in Athens alone, but in the whole region. As among the attractions that make up the tourism of Athens, the cemetery is regarded as a major crossroad when it comes to antiquity. This is because, here, you can see what remained of the huge Dipylon and the Sacred Gates. The former is known as the converging point of streets, while the latter is where the Panathenaic Festival starts before it heads to the Ancient Agor and then on to climb the Parthenon.
