One of the greatest monuments of Athens that remind Athenians of the valiant efforts of their heroes is the Monument to Philhellenes in the Acropolis. This pillar, which is triangular in shape and made of marble, bears an inscription that commemorates French general Baron Nicolas Favier and Major Frank Robert. These two heroes defended the Acropolis from the Turks in the year 1826.

If you want to take a look at this monument, which is one of the most significant monuments in Athens, then you have to ascend the Acropolis from Dionysiou Areopagitou Street, which is one of the stop for tourist buses. Remember to follow the footpath beside the Odeion of Herodes Atticus theatre, and not the wide paved pathway, as this will lead you the pillar, which is on the left side of the path. Once there, you can marvel at the bravery of the two men who are honored by the monument.
