Near the Belvedere in Acropolis, you can find the Acropolis Archaeological Museum. One of the attractions that make up the tourism of Athens, the structure that houses the museum can be seen hugging the ground, so as not to take much notice away from the ancient monuments that are in the area.
Inside the museum, you will be able to discover the original Caryatids that held up the porch of the Erectheion. Only four of the original six are here as one can be found in the British Museum and the other disappeared during the occupation of the Ottoman. Other delightful finds that you can discover in the museum include the Mourning Athena, which is a graceful relief from the 5th century, the three-headed Tryphon, the Calfbearer and the statues of the smiling kouroi or young men and korai or maidens. These ancient artifacts are just among the attractions that make the museum such a great contributor to the tourism of Athens.
