Located in Central Athens North, this museum is partially housed in the 1895 Stathatos Mansion. It was founded in 1986 by Nikolas and Dolly Goulandri. The museum is dedicated to the study of the ancient cultures of the Aegean and the island of Cyprus. It has a special emphasis on the Cycladic art of the 3rd millennium BC. The galleries are divided into three main areas: the Cycladic Culture of the Early Bronze Age (3200 to 3000 BC), Ancient Greek Art from the Bronze Age to Late Roman Times (2nd millennium BC to the 4th century AD), and Cypriot Culture from the Chalcolithic Age to the Early Christian Period (4th millennium BC to the 6th century AD).

In this museum you will find the world’s largest collection of Cycladic art. The beautiful simplicity of these artifacts has been inspirational to such modern artists as Picasso, Modigliani, and Henry Moore. The star attractions are a 15 inch Cycladic figurine of a woman, a white Lekythos (funerary urn) from about 450 BC, an elegant 4th century BC terracotta figure of a woman, and a 5th century BC kylix (drinking cup) depicting two male athletes boxing.
