There are many reasons why airports are great contributors to the tourism industry of a place. It is their capability to bring in tourists that makes them so important to any city. As such, the Corfu Island International Airport can be regarded as a big part of the tourism of Corfu.

This airport started when it became the landing site of the Heston Phoenix plane with Governor Efstratio Xidi onboard. This was in March 22, 1937. Since then, the airport has always been in use, until it became the international airport that we all know today. With a corridor that is 2,400 meters long and 45 meters wide, the airport has a passenger station that was completed in 1972. However, the earlier and smaller version of this building was constructed in the year 1962. Three years after this, the airport, which is known as Kapodistrias to the locals, became a major contributor to the tourism of Corfu, and it was made into an International Airport.
