The resort town of Perissa is home to one of the most famous beaches on the island of Santorini. Mesa Vuono is the name of the rock protruding from the sea, characteristic to the town of Perissa and easily viewed from the black sand beach. Nearby, Thera is a small island loaded with ancient history. Perched atop sea cliffs overlooking the Perissa beach, there are exceptional views available and a wealth of Aegean artifacts as well; it is easily accessed from a mountain path in the village. The Chapel of Agia Irena is a notable landmark dating from the 16th century.
