There are many people who consider the Kos Museum as quite an impressive archaeological museum, considering that it is located in a town that is really not that big. Because of this, the museum is one of the attractions that are said to contribute quite a lot to the tourism of Kos.

It was during the 1930s that the structure that houses the Kos Museum was constructed by the Italians, with the aim of making it the home of mainly Roman and Hellenistic mosaics and sculptures discovered in archaeological diggings in the island. Although there might not be a single outstanding work in the collection housed in the museum, it represents the glorious past of this humble port town, making it a great part of the tourism of Kos. The beautiful mosaic depicting the welcoming of the god Asklepius by Pan and Hippocrates from the 3rd century that is displayed in the atrium of the museum is one of the main attractions here.
