Massouri Hotels and Accommodation
Set on the western coast of the Greek island of Kalymnos, Massouri overlooks the clear, blue Aegean Sea and the islet of Telendos. Being the most popular tourist resort on this small island, it offers a range of restaurants, bars, nightclubs and hotels and has a wide, sandy and shingle beach which is ideal for sunbathing, swimming and water sports. The island of Kalymnos owes much of its fame to its celebrated sponge divers. Sponge fishing is the chief occupation for the men of the island and, each spring, they set sail for the seas off the North African coast, not to return until five months later. Upon their return, the whole island dresses in festive costumes to welcome them home. EasyToBook.com can offer excellent accommodation at budget hotels in Massouri, most of which offer sea views.
Whilst staying on this beautiful little island, take the opportunity to discover some of its wonderful sights. The capital of the island, which goes by the same name, and is also known as Pothia, is the centre of the island’s tourist trade, and offers bars, restaurants, shops, tavernas and hotels, all in a setting of colorfully painted houses, churches and belfries. In the southwestern part of the island, you will find the cave of Kefala, with its stalactites and stalagmites. There are also the caves of the Seven Virgins, or the ‘Cavern of the Nymphs’ at the foot of Mount Flaska, and the cave of Therma with its radioactive springs which are said to be beneficial for many illnesses. Close to the former capital of the island, Chorio, is the site of the church of Jesus of Jerusalem, built towards the end of the 4th century AD, as well as the monasteries of the Evangelist and St Catherine.
