Although the Palace of the Grand Masters may not be the ancient building that many people expect to see, it is still an impressive structure that bears the specifications of the earlier building from which it was patterned. Even as a reconstruction, the palace is still one of the interesting architectural attractions in Rhodes that are worth visiting.
Bearing a square form, the Palace of the Grand Masters was constructed around a huge courtyard, which is patterned after a modified citadel from the 7th century. The restoration of the palace did not begin in earnest until 1937, and the result of this is the structure that we see today. As one of the more interesting attractions in Rhodes, the palace's entrance is dominated by an impressive staircase that leads to mosaic-floored staterooms on the first floor. Although the mosaics are not originally from the city itself, they are still quite striking, and they have made the palace one of great attractions of the modern times.
