Kalamaki Hotels and Accommodation
Kalamaki is situated just 7kms from the center of Hania, on the northwest of the Greek island of Crete. It is not so much a village as an area along the coast, located between the inland village of Galatas and the sea. The area offers an abundance of cheap hotels, tavernas, bars and supermarkets, all the way along the coast road as far as Kastelli to the west. Kalamaki itself offers a small, sandy beach and a tiny port, and the beach at Agii Apostoli is also within easy walking distance. EasyToBook.com can offer budget accommodation at hotels in the area, ideally situated between the beautiful town of Hania to the east, and the cosmopolitan and lively resort of Platanias to the west.
Hania (also spelt Chania) was formerly the capital city of Crete, and is most famous for its splendid Venetian harbor. During the summer months, horses and carriages deliver visitors to the many waterfront restaurants, nestling below the magnificent facades of the Venetian buildings. The tiny cobbled backstreets of the old town are overlooked by hotels and houses which date back to the 15th and 16th centuries. The Maritime Museum at one end of the harbor offers a superb introduction to the history of Crete, and only minutes away on foot you will find yourself at the Venetian lighthouse and the Turkish mosque of Hassan Pasha. A trip in the opposite direction from your hotel will take you to Platanias, a bustling village with a great many shops, bars and restaurants and a terrific nightlife. Bus services in either direction from Kalamaki are excellent, regular and cheap, allowing you ample opportunity to make the most of your stay and explore the surrounding area.
