Ten minutes’ drive away are the larger villages of Vamos and Gavalochori, which accommodate visitors all year round. A 30 minute drive west will take you into Hania, with its famous Venetian harbor, old town and quayside bars and restaurants. The same distance east will see you in Rethymnon, a beautiful town, again with an old quarter and a superb selection of shops, and dominated by a fortress which exhibits both the Venetian and Turkish historical influences of the area.
