The city of Athens is not only the place in Greece that holds great Olympic venues. There are also a smattering of other sites around the country that were also used as venues for different sporting events, especially during the 2004 Olympics. One of these is the Pankritio Stadium, which is considered as one of the attractions in Heraklion that a lot of people take the time out to visit.
Seating up to 27,000 people, the Pankritio Stadium is known to be a state-of-the-art stadium that is set right on the picturesque island of Crete. Although it was mainly used as the site for the preliminary football matches during the 2004 Olympic games, the stadium served other purposes as well. As among the attractions in Heraklion, the stadium also houses a swimming pool, an eight-lane athletics track, roomy dressing rooms, hammer throw and shot put rings and a multipurpose conference hall.
