The most important attractions in Heraklion that can be found in Gortyna are the inscriptions on stones that were dubbed the Gortyn Law Code. With its roots set in 15th century BC, the inscribed stones are said to contain the complete code of law that was made according to the traditions of the Mionoans. The stones have been well preserved and are now being displayed within the northern rounded wall of Gortyna's Roman Odeon, although this theatre was from the 1st century AD, a much later date. The Temple of Apollo Pythios from 700 BC and the Church of St. Titus, which was where the first Cretan introduction to Christianity occured, can also be found within Gortyna.
