Asprangeli Hotels and Accommodation
Asprangeli, which translates as ‘white angels’, is a small village set at an altitude of 990 meters, in an area known as Central Zagori in the prefecture of Ioannina on mainland Greece. Lying to the north of the city of Ioannina, the capital of the prefecture, this fascinating area has no less than 46 traditional settlements, including Asprangeli, many of which have been declared as preservation sites. The villages are best known for their stone buildings, slate roofs and cobbled paths, all built by hand from local stone. Not only is the area one of outstanding natural beauty, but it is also rich in animal and plant life, and is home to a number of rare species, including bears, deer, wild goats and jackals.
Setting out from your hotel in Asprangeli, you will be within easy reach of the local monastery, as well as the other Zagorian villages. Vitsa is home to the churches of Agios Nikolaos and Taxiarchis, which date back to 1610 and 1700 respectively, and Kipi, the Village of Gardens, is said to be the most beautiful of all the Zagorian villages. Booking your discount hotel through EasyToBook.com will also see you well placed to visit the nearby city of Ioannina. The city is famous throughout Greece for its silverwork and you will find many shops selling jewelry and decorative silverware, such as serving trays, recreations of shields and swords and a variety of silver trinkets. Whilst you are there, a visit to the castle in the centre of Ioannina is recommended. Within the castle you will find the mosque of Aslan Pasha, which houses the Municipal History Museum, including exhibits of folk art, weapons and swords from the period of Ottoman occupation of the area. A few kilometers outside of Ioannina, you will also find the fascinating Vrellis wax statue museum, where scenes from the history of Greece are displayed. A short drive from your hotel will also take you to the Vikos gorge, the caves of Perama and Mount Smolikas, Greece’s second highest mountain.
